Construction of Daily Regulation Reservoirs Commences

September 12, 2025

To address irrigation water scarcity and rising demand, construction has began on Daily Regulation Reservoirs (DRRs) to accumulate necessary water volumes and prevent unnecessary loss.

To address irrigation water scarcity and rising demand, the construction of Daily Regulation Reservoirs (DRRs) has officially launched. These projects are designed to ensure the accumulation of necessary water volumes at the headworks and within the irrigation systems of Water User Association (WUA) service areas. Furthermore, these measures aim to prevent the inefficient loss of surplus water.

On August 7 and 8, construction sites were handed over to competitively selected contractors with the participation of representatives of the Water Committee, the technical and author supervision organisations, and the Water User Associations. Projects are slated for the Arazap-1 and Armash pumping stations (Zones 3 and 4), as well as the Aygehat (Alaverdi) and Khnkoyan (Spitak) settlements in the Lori region.

The program aims to promote efficient use of scarce irrigation water, stimulate agricultural development, and reduce the vulnerability of target groups to climate change.

The implementation of the program will have a significant positive impact on the efficiency of sustainable and environmentally sound water resource management across the regions. Furthermore, it will stimulate rural development and improve the living standards of the local population.
