Chairman of the Water Committee Aramazd Ghalamkaryan and Deputy Chairman Martiros Nalbandyan conducted a working visit to Syunik region.

The purpose of the visit was to review on site water infrastructure challenges, analyse the efficiency of existing systems and discuss ongoing improvement programmes.

The Committee’s management visited the Syunik Water User Association and, together with Director Nairi Hovhannisyan, toured the Meghri, Kapan, Goris and Sisian divisions under the Association’s jurisdiction and visited pumping stations serving those settlements.

Mr. Ghalamkaryan and Mr. Nalbandyan were hosted at the Office of the Governor of Syunik, where they held discussions with Deputy Governor Nare Ghazaryan and sector officials. The meeting covered urgent issues requiring attention in various communities of the region and matters of mutual interest.

In Kapan, Mr. Ghalamkaryan and Mr. Nalbandyan met with Community Head Gevorg Parsyan and discussed modernisation of the water management system, including water storage opportunities in the Kapan area, as well as wear of drinking water and irrigation networks and other current issues.

The Committee’s officials also met with Meghri Community Head Khachatur Andreasian and discussed current challenges in irrigation infrastructure. In Meghri, a site tour was organised of pumping stations serving the settlements of Alvank, Shvanidzor and Nrnadjor, as well as meetings with water users in newly established orchards.

Mr. Ghalamkaryan and Mr. Nalbandyan also visited the area of the planned Lichk Reservoir, which is envisaged under one of five reservoir construction projects recently approved by the Public Investment Committee.

The Water Committee will continue regional visits at the senior management level to review the current state of drinking water and irrigation systems, identify priority issues and consider pathways to address them.
