December 26, 2025

A visit to the Arpa–Sevan tunnel was carried out under the leadership of Chairman of the Water Committee Aramazd Ghalamkaryan. The purpose of the inspection visit was to review the rehabilitation works of emergency sections of Tunnel N 2 and, in accordance with the established procedure, draw up the completion certificate.

For this purpose, an acceptance commission was formed comprising representatives of the Water Committee, Arpa–Sevan OJSC, Hayjrnakhagits Institute CJSC, the Vayots Dzor territorial division of the Urban Development, Technical and Fire Safety Inspectorate, and the Governor Officeof of Vayots Dzor.

Commission members, together with the Chairman, visited the Yeghegis hydropower section of the Arpa–Sevan tunnel and entered the tunnel, where rehabilitation works were carried out in various sections of the 18 km-long stretch. The total length of linings rehabilitated in 2024–2025 amounted to 245 m. As a result of the works, the tunnel’s capacity increased to 20 m³/s.

Rehabilitation of tunnel emergency sections newly identified by the Water Committee will commence in September 2026. For implementation, AMD 2 billion 82 million will be allocated from the state budget.

The Arpa–Sevan tunnel was constructed to stabilize and raise the water level of Lake Sevan serving as a cornerstone for the efficient management of Armenia’s water resources. By facilitating the diversion of the Arpa and Yeghegis rivers into Lake Sevan, the tunnel plays a vital role in preserving the lake's ecological integrity and supporting the long-term sustainability of its ecosystem.
